Project Description
Flutterbyes
Gorgeous illuminated store signs and vinyl graphics
Illuminated store signs and vinyl graphics were supplied to Flutterbyes, the home accessory and gift specialist. They were looking to grow their retail business by increasing the number of shops in the South East and W&Co was privileged to have been chosen as their sign supplier. The aim was to create more attractive and stylish signs in keeping with their brand identity and trendy shabby chic product range.
Flutterbyes at Bluewater
Starting with the store at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent, the requirement was to replace the basic flat cut PVC lettering with more dynamic and welcoming illuminated store signs on the entrance. After designs created by W&Co were approved, an LED illuminated sign tray was manufactured with fret cut Flutterbyes logo and various butterflies at different sizes which were inlaid with opal acrylic and fronted with backlit coloured vinyl.
To enhance the store’s entrance further a set of built-up halo illuminated letters of the Flutterbyes logo were installed vertically on the angled wall either side of the entrance to attract the eyes of customers walking by.
Flutterbyes at Lakeside
W&Co created similar illuminated store signs for the brand new Flutterbyes store at Lakeside Shopping Centre, in Essex. In this instance the main shop sign comprised of halo illuminated built up letters which were fixed to a cream coloured folded sign tray which was applied with subtle vinyl butterfly and swirl decorations.
On the walls at the sides of the shop window flat cut letters of the Flutterbyes’ logo were produced and fitted to catch the eye of passing shoppers.
Within the store W&Co also created and installed large format wall vinyl graphics on the interior walls of the shop replicating the vinyl decoration design on the entrance sign, this really let the design to flow throughout the store drawing in the customer’s attention.
New Stores at Ashford, Bexleyheath and Maidstone
New stores have opened at Ashford County Square Shopping Centre, ‘The Mall’ Bexleyheath and ‘The Mall’ Maidstone as part of their continual growth throughout the South East.
Using the same style of custom illuminated signage, the illumination was vital for the Bexleyheath fascia sign as this would be Flutterbyes’ first outdoor store. The highest quality bright white LEDs were used to create the glowing halo effect on the fascia sign to ensure the sign can be during all hours of the day and to grab the attention of pedestrians on the Broadway.
The Mall in Maidstone has been undergoing a complete modernisation of the centre’s inside appearance so was an attractive prospect for a new Flutterbyes store. The bespoke sign project was made particularly testing having to deal with old building structures with uneven surfaces and minimal fixing locations for such a large sign. W&Co overcame these issues and carried out an accurate site survey to ensure the sign was fabricated to slot neatly over the centralised pillar so that the design didn’t have to be split into two separate sections which would have compromised the Flutterbyes logo design.
Flutterbyes Christmas pop-up shop
Flutterbyes had the opportunity to open a pop-up shop at Bluewater offering bespoke Christmas Gift and Home accessories. With it being a temporary store the signage and graphics were required to create a big impact for low cost and short term use.
Using the same style of custom signage design previously installed at the Lakeside store, the Flutterbyes fascia sign was hung in the store window display and suspended from the ceiling as a temporary solution, but fabricated in a way to allow the sign to be reused permanently at a later date.
Vinyl graphics were applied to the external panels on the side of the shop entrance, while cut vinyl Christmas slogans, snowflakes and baubles were applied throughout the interior of the store. Using self-adhesive vinyl was ideal for Flutterbyes’s temporary space as they were able to achieve the desired effect while having the advantage of being able to easily remove the graphics after Christmas. All the self-adhesive vinyls and digital wallpaper was produced in-house utilising W&Co’s HP large format latex printer.
W&Co worked closely with the client to establish a clear and concise understanding of all their requirements. This included the production a number of digital 3D renders of the store with the proposed signage, which had the additional benefit of enabling the designs to be quickly approved by the Bluewater management prior to installation.
Flutterbyes feedback
The feedback from Flutterbyes for all their shops has been very positive with the stores’ director, Charmain Botton, commenting how the signage has had a very positive effect on the business stating, “our signage has reinforced our branding” and continuing, “many of our regular customers have complimented us on the new signage.”
