Project Description
Fayair Hangar Signage
Huge Built-Up Letters flying high at Stansted Airport
Business magnate, Mohamed Al-Fayed’s private jet business, Fayair, came to W&Co for the manufacture and installation of huge built-up letters for their newly acquired aircraft hangar at Stansted Airport in Essex.
Fayair acquired a brand new £12m luxury private jet centre at Stansted Airport, in Essex, and W&Co were privileged to be awarded the contract based on quality and previous work for blue-chip clients and other airport work undertaken. We were requested to supply and install huge “fayair” signage lettering consisting of massive halo illuminated built-up letters to both sides of the gigantic high-spec hangar complex built by LPL Construction.
W&Co worked closely with the LPL Construction team over 4 days to overcome the difficult task of lifting the giant 4 metre high individual built-up letters into place using a 53 metre lifting platform. The six enormous sign letters on either side of the hangar complex span a massive 15 metres, the biggest built-up letters that W&Co have ever supplied.
The massive built-up letters were manufactured from RAL ‘Sky Blue’ powder coated aluminium and then halo illuminated with high quality LED modules. Oversized flat cut letters were also installed behind each of the letters. These elements were finished to match the colour of the external hangar cladding to act as reflector plates to the halo lighting and ensure even halo illumination around the lettering.
Mr Al Fayed visited the site many times himself throughout the project and personally told the site team that he was very impressed with the high quality of all the work undertaken. The halo illuminated signage on the hangar can now be seen from miles away, daytime or night time.
