Project Description
Irish Whiskey Museum LED Light Panels
Museum Feature Lighting Gives a Warm Glow
The Irish Whiskey Museum was supplied bespoke warm white LED Light Panels for their Feature Lighting project which consisted of a 14 metre wide LED Light Panel Display set behind glass shelves. This was all supplied by W&Co as part of a stunning illuminated whiskey bottle display in the Irish Whiskey Museum’s new tasting room and bar.
The design brief was to supply the museum LED light panels that would be easy to install and maintain, could be recessed behind shelving, offer bright with even illumination and be produced with very warm amber light colour that would complement the whiskey bottles on the shelves.
The wall where the LED light panels were to be mounted had a soft concave curve, therefore, the flat LED light panels had to be manufactured in twelve 1.2 metre wide sections to create the 14m wide curved shape. To ensure even and high brightness was achieved the light panels were supplied with LEDs mounted to both long edges of each 1.2m wide sections.
The museum wanted a warm colour backdrop to the whiskey bottles when the display was illuminated and when it was turned off, they also wanted to be able to control it during the day. Therefore, LED light panels were produced in a colour light temperature of 3000 Kelvin and an additional orange filter film was laminated to opal diffuser panels to offer an even warmer light colour.
The museum LED light panels came with dimmable transformers that were connected to a controller to enable the client to adjust the brightness of all the light panels simultaneously whenever they required.
Once all the LED light panels, which make up the display, were in place the shelving was put in to position and digital signage screens were recessed in to position, then the whiskey bottles were placed on the shelves and backlit by the diffused LED light panels.
The Irish Whiskey Museum officially opened in autumn 2014 and has already been a huge success and expects to have around 80,000 visitors in its first year.
The whiskey wall project was a complete success and the comments were very positive from the client, including interior designer Sean Ryan who stated, “I am very happy with the finished result of the whiskey wall, it conveys exactly what I intended with the design concept. Many people have commented on how great the effect is so thanks for your assistance on the project.”
